Kat and Mylo meeting notes
Kat and I met yesterday for a planning meeting and discussed the following points;
1. what would be the content/structure of the questions in our podcast on post-truth
1. what would be the content/structure of the questions in our podcast on post-truth
- how is nostalgia linked to Brexit?
- what does it mean to manifest movements based upon nostalgia (Basque, Brexit)
- then... is politics an abstraction of the truth?
- Populism and post-truth
- what has truth nostalgia meant in the past (who's truth are we talking about?)
- how does truth work in Jenny Holzer's art piece 'Truisms'
- can the flip side to (negative) post-truth mean that there is space for more than one truth?
- What does this mean for intersectionality ?
2. If this resonates with anyone in the group particularly who would like to join the podcasting session, let us know on the slack channel.
3. We spoke a bit about the idea of creating a video response that is quite punchy. It could be that it dosent have to be a linear discussion/ documentary about nostalgia but maybe a creative short film that leaves you with an emotional reaction? that doesn't necessarily have to make sense, as nostalgia too doesn't have to be rational.
Perhaps it could be found footage that is inspired by the fullness of our understanding of nostalgia in this blog, interlaced with music made by Janice and snaps of conversations that use our podcast responses, spliced with old BBC voices? We could insert political propaganda moments (Brexit, Basque, Franco , T. May/D. Cameron) that become surreal in the context of the video which is quite a nice metaphor for the surreal-ness of political movements driven by nostalgia.
Im thinking here about Dadaism, surrealism, the spectacle of nostalgia, visualising discomfort, post-truth politics
